Although charred wood is naturally weather-resistant, it is not entirely maintenance-free.

Over time, sun, wind, and rain will shape the appearance of the façade — Rauch/Holz® is wood, and wood is an organic material that always responds to its environment.

Our products are carefully burned and treated with a water-based emulsion that enhances durability and greatly reduces maintenance. The surface may subtly change in color and texture depending on exposure and location — this is a natural part of its character.

Thanks to the heat treatment, the wood becomes highly weather-resistant. It withstands harsh conditions — moisture, rain, heat, or snow. Good planning and careful storage and installation are key to the long lifespan of Rauch/Holz®.

Color changes are normal. Regular cleaning and occasional reapplication of our water-based emulsion help maintain the appearance. If the black tone lightens over the years, you can easily refresh it with our emulsion. Local scratches can be cleaned or touched up.

You can also let Rauch/Holz® age naturally — the fire treatment penetrates deep into the wood, so its benefits remain intact. In the end, it’s simply a matter of taste.

For cleaning, never use aggressive cleaners, pressure washers, or hard brushes, as these can remove the carbonized layer. Use a soft cloth or gentle brush instead.

If you have any questions regarding maintenance or long-term performance, feel free to contact us — we’ll be happy to guide you :)
