burned wood from local forests.

Rauch/Holz® is wood transformed by fire, crafted in Germany, on the island of Usedom, by Master Carpenter Thomas Rauch. Each plank of locally resourced timber is carefully charred and sealed to reveal a deep-black, weather-resistant, and long-lasting surface, ideal as exterior cladding and as a stylish interior highlight.

Rauch/Holz® is designed for those who seek a truly unique and environmentally responsible material.

After almost a decade of burning, we put all our experience into your project.

Your Project Deserves More Than Standard Solutions

Many products on the market come from far away, are mass-produced in limited sizes, or quickly lose their quality.
Unknown Origin: it’s hard to know where the wood really comes from.
High Maintenance: constant upkeep means time and cost.
Generic Look: façades that lack character.

Visionäre Architektur

You need a material that is high-quality, low maintenance, durable, and aesthetically unique – with no compromises. That’s exactly what Rauch/Holz® offers: a façade that elevates architecture, individually crafted to your specifications.

"Thomas Rauch beim Karbonisieren von Holz in der Manufaktur auf Usedom"

Crafted by a Master:
Personally by Thomas Rauch.

Rauch/Holz® is different: this is not industrial production – it’s a true manufactory.

Thomas Rauch is Master Carpenter.

On his traditional wandering journey, Thomas gained experience worldwide and developed his own method for enhancing wood with fire.

Today, he and his team personally refine every plank.

Nothing leaves the workshop without passing through his hands. The result: unique textures, regional origin, and award-winning design.

RauchHolz Sello

In 2017, I founded the Rauch/Holz® Manufaktur on the island of Usedom to produce durable façades sustainably and at a larger scale. On my traditional carpenter’s journey, I was inspired by buildings in Scandinavia and Asia that had been enhanced through fire and stood resilient against the elements.

All of these years of experience are embodied in Rauch/Holz® – along with the utmost dedication to creating a sustainable, environmentally responsible, high-quality, and passionately regionally crafted product.

I stand behind every Rauch/Holz® product with my name.

KAIMAN

Through a multi-step carbonization process, Kaiman gains structural strength and develops an irregular pattern reminiscent of alligator skin.

After charring, the wood is lightly brushed to remove the first layer of charcoal, revealing a stunning, unexpectedly contrasted pattern that is incredibly smooth to the touch.

FINA

Known for understated elegance, Fina is gently brushed, hand-polished, and finished with a water-based emulsion. The result is a silky matte black surface that beautifully interacts with light.

KEBONYB.jpg

kebony

By integrating the innovative, environmentally friendly modification process of Kebony® with the proven advantages of Rauch/Holz®, we created a wooden product that sets new standards in performance, durability, and aesthetics.

Wood is good. Rauch/Holz is better.

01

Durability

The heat treatment improves the durability of the wood: the pores shrink, making it water- and rot-resistant. The fire strengthens the wood, and the micro-compressed surface is, surprisingly, also fire-retardant. In addition, termites and other wood-eating insects stay away from the charred layer.

02

Aesthetic

Our burning process enhances the visual appeal of the wood, emphasizing the natural beauty of the grain with dark tones and unique textures that radiate character and elegance. A Rauch/Holz® façade is unconventional and striking, combining visual brilliance with practical benefits, making it ideal for both modern and traditional architectural designs.

03

Low-maintenance

Rauch/Holz® products are carefully burned and treated with a water-based emulsion. The façades are particularly durable and resilient — even against moisture, rain, heat, or snow — and require comparatively little maintenance. As wood is a natural material, changes in structure and color are part of its unique character. Learn more.

04

Sustainability

Our wood comes responsibly from local forests. The charring process requires no additional chemical treatments and releases no harmful toxins into the environment. The CO₂ emissions we cannot avoid are offset through the support of environmental projects.

05

Circularity

Rauch/Holz® fits perfectly with the principles of the circular economy thanks to its focus on natural processes, sustainability, longevity, and minimal environmental impact. It’s time to embrace the circular economy, and we are ready for it. Discover more here.
