Douglasie (Douglas fir) offers several advantages that make it one of the most reliable and versatile woods for both exterior and interior use.  It is one of the most widely used woods for façades in Europe because it combines natural durability, stability and impressive strength a combination that ensures resilience and a refined appearance over time, making it ideal for long-lasting exterior applications.

1. Excellent Durability

Douglas fir has naturally high resin content, which makes it resistant to moisture, decay, and insects. It performs very well in European climates, especially when carbonized.

2. Dimensional Stability

Its medium density and tight annual rings give Douglasie outstanding stability and rigidity, meaning it doesn’t warp, crack, or shrink as easily as spruce or pine. For façades, this is critical to maintain flat, even surfaces over time.

3. Workability

Douglasie is a softwood that is easy to work with, cut, join and install, which makes it very practical for carpenters. It responds amazingly well  to carbonisation which enhances durability, weather resistance, and visual appeal.

At Rauch/Holz®, we are deeply committed to reducing our ecological footprint and promoting sustainable practices. That’s why we use only certified Douglas fir from responsibly managed forests in Northern Germany.

We work exclusively with wood of clear and traceable origin, reducing costs and emissions by avoiding long transport routes. This way, every piece of Rauch/Holz® not only meets the highest quality standards but also supports genuine environmental responsibility.
